The Priory in Wareham has been awarded One Michelin Key in the 2026 Michelin Guide, becoming the only hotel in Dorset to hold the distinction. Announced on 18 September, the recognition places the riverside hotel among Michelin’s selection of outstanding places to stay across Great Britain and Ireland.
Michelin describes One Key as recognising “a very special stay”. The award celebrates the overall hotel experience, with inspectors visiting anonymously and independently to identify properties offering exceptional hospitality.

For The Priory, that experience comes with a distinctly Dorset setting. The Grade II listed country house sits beside the River Frome, with individually designed bedrooms combining antique furnishings and twentieth-century pieces. Its Wareham location also makes it a base for exploring Purbeck, with Corfe Castle and RSPB Arne among the nearby attractions.
Food is another part of its appeal. The hotel’s Garden Room restaurant serves dishes built around local ingredients, including produce and catches from the Dorset coast, giving visitors another reason to spend time here.
The Michelin recognition joins a growing collection of accolades. The Priory also holds the Good Hotel Guide’s 2026 César Award for Best Hotel in the South West and an Editor’s Choice award for Romantic Hotel. For anyone considering a special break close to home, Wareham now has an extra reason to be on the list.
