Some of the best views in Dorset aren't found on land, they're out at sea. During my visit to Weymouth, I decided to experience the Jurassic Coast from a completely different perspective, stepping aboard a Coastal Vibes Cruise from Weymouth Harbour. It quickly became one of the highlights of my trip and reminded me just how spectacular Dorset's coastline really is.
Departing from the heart of Weymouth Harbour, the experience begins before you've even left the dock. Watching the colourful harbour come to life while the boat prepares to sail creates an atmosphere that's both exciting and wonderfully relaxing. As we headed out into Weymouth Bay, the bustling seafront gradually disappeared behind us, replaced by panoramic views of England's only natural UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Seeing the Jurassic Coast from the water is something every visitor to Dorset should experience at least once. The dramatic cliffs, hidden coves and sweeping coastline look completely different from the sea, offering a fresh appreciation of one of Britain's most iconic landscapes. As the boat cruised along the coastline, there were plenty of opportunities to simply sit back, enjoy the sea air and admire the scenery unfolding in every direction.
One of the things I enjoyed most was the relaxed atmosphere on board. Whether you choose to soak up the sunshine on the open-air upper deck or enjoy the views from the comfortable indoor seating, the cruise feels unhurried and welcoming. With refreshments available from the licensed onboard bar, it was easy to settle in and enjoy the journey while taking in the stunning coastal views.
Although the scenery is undoubtedly the star of the show, every cruise offers something a little different. Alongside scenic daytime sailings, Coastal Vibes also hosts sunset cruises, live music evenings, themed events and seasonal experiences throughout the year, making it a great attraction to visit more than once. From relaxed afternoons on the water to lively evening entertainment, there's a cruise to suit couples, families, groups of friends and visitors celebrating a special occasion.
I was also impressed by how family-friendly the experience felt. Most daytime cruises are suitable for children, and the spacious vessel gives everyone room to enjoy the journey comfortably. The friendly crew and relaxed atmosphere make it easy for families to enjoy the spectacular views together, while wildlife lovers can keep an eye out for seabirds and, if you're lucky, even dolphins along the route.
As we made our way back towards Weymouth Harbour, I found myself appreciating the coastline in a completely new way. Seeing famous landmarks from the sea, feeling the fresh coastal breeze and watching the town come back into view made the whole experience feel genuinely memorable.
