Moors Valley Country Park & Forest | One of Dorset's Best Family Days Out | Dorset Lifestyle

Some places surprise you.

We arrived at Moors Valley thinking we'd enjoy a peaceful woodland walk before heading elsewhere for the afternoon. A few hours later, we were still there, and honestly, we could have stayed even longer.

That's the magic of Moors Valley. It isn't just a country park; it's the kind of place where every path seems to lead to another adventure, making it one of those rare attractions that genuinely offers something for everyone.

More Than Just a Walk in the Woods

The first thing that struck us was how much there is to discover. One moment you're wandering beneath towering pine trees, the next you're crossing wooden bridges, spotting woodland sculptures or hearing the whistle of the miniature steam railway echo through the forest.

It never feels repetitive. Every trail reveals something different, whether it's peaceful lakes, hidden play areas or another excuse to stop and take in the scenery.

Every Child's Dream Forest

If you're visiting with children, don't expect them to ask, "What shall we do next?"

Moors Valley seems to answer that question for you.

The enormous adventure playgrounds, mile-long Play Trail, towering wooden climbing structures and interactive forest experiences turn an ordinary walk into a full-scale adventure. It feels less like a park and more like nature's biggest playground, where imaginations are encouraged to run as wild as little legs.

Choose Your Own Adventure

One of the things we loved most is that no two visits have to be the same.

You can keep things simple with a picnic and a woodland stroll, hire bikes to explore miles of forest trails, ride the charming narrow-gauge steam railway or head into the treetops on Go Ape if you're looking for something more adventurous.

It means families, couples and groups of friends can all enjoy the day in completely different ways, and somehow everyone leaves happy.

The Kind of Place You'll Keep Coming Back To

Some attractions are fantastic once you've seen them.

Moors Valley feels different.

Because the forest changes with the seasons, there's always a reason to return. Spring brings fresh greenery, summer is perfect for long family adventures, autumn transforms the woodland into a sea of gold, and crisp winter walks have a peaceful charm all of their own.

It's the sort of place that quietly becomes part of your family traditions.

Why We Think Everyone Should Visit

What makes Moors Valley special isn't one single attraction, it's how effortlessly everything comes together.

You can spend the morning exploring woodland trails, enjoy lunch surrounded by nature, watch the steam train puff past, challenge each other to an afternoon adventure and still leave feeling like you've only scratched the surface.

Whether you're planning a budget-friendly family day out, looking for somewhere to enjoy the outdoors or simply want a place where children can swap screens for fresh air, Moors Valley delivers in a way few attractions can.

Sometimes the best days out aren't the ones you carefully plan, they're the ones where you lose track of time. Moors Valley is exactly that kind of place, and we can't wait to go back.
