There is something especially appealing about a Dorset vineyard at harvest time. The rows are changing colour, the year’s work is reaching its busiest point and a glass of local wine feels even better after seeing where its grapes grow. Whether the ideal day out involves a guided tour, a tasting with friends or lunch overlooking the vines, these vineyards each offer a different way in.
For a vineyard visit that can become a whole afternoon, start at Langham. Its guided experience takes visitors through the vines and winery before a tasting of three sparkling wines. From October, guests booking the lunch supplement can put it towards a meal at Smiths Kitchen, the estate’s vineyard café, where the menu draws on Dorset and South West produce. There is also a self-guided vineyard walk and tasting for those who prefer to explore at their own pace.
Furleigh is a good choice for anyone curious about what happens between the vine and the finished bottle. Its two-hour Grand Tour includes a vineyard walk, a look inside the winery and a seated tasting of five wines, both still and sparkling. Tours are bookable through the end of October 2026. Furleigh also offers a version with local apple and pear juices for a designated driver, making it easier to plan the visit as a countryside day out.
Set in the hills near the Jurassic Coast, Bride Valley makes the landscape part of the experience. Its small-group tour follows the vines before returning to the tasting room to sample the estate’s still and sparkling wines. Scheduled Saturday tours run from mid-April until harvest, so anyone hoping to visit this autumn should check the remaining dates; private tours are available by enquiry.
A short journey from Poole leads to a very different scene: quiet countryside, oak trees and rows of grapes destined for English sparkling wine. English Oak’s owner-led visits take guests through the vineyard and explain how its wines are made before the tasting. Its tour information lists autumn visits, though the booking guidance differs on when public tours finish, so it is best to call for an available date before setting out.
If the food is as important as the wine, Breezy Ridge offers an autumn outing with a different pace. Visitors can book a tasting flight of its English sparkling wines and settle in at The Ridge for food, from tapas and grazing boards to its newly announced Sunday lunch offering. The vineyard says its Friday to Sunday visits begin from 25 September 2026. Its published opening-hour details are inconsistent, so check the restaurant’s current bookings before travelling.
