Begin 2027 with an afternoon of sweeping waltzes, lively polkas and celebratory orchestral music as Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra presents its New Year’s Day Viennese Gala at Lighthouse, Poole.
Inspired by the traditional concert halls of Vienna, this sparkling seasonal performance will feature music by Johann Strauss II, members of the Strauss family and several of their contemporaries. The programme brings together elegant waltzes, energetic marches and familiar classical favourites designed to welcome the New Year in suitably uplifting style.
The programme is set to include Johann Strauss II’s famous Blue Danube Waltz, Emperor Waltz, Tik-Tak Polka and Annen-Polka. Audiences can also look forward to Offenbach’s Can-Can from Orpheus in the Underworld, Franz von Suppé’s Light Cavalry Overture and music by Josef Strauss and Lehár.
Conductor Tom Fetherstonhaugh will lead Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra, joined by soprano Claudia Boyle for vocal selections including Vilja’s Lied from The Merry Widow, Mein Herr Marquis from Die Fledermaus and a vocal arrangement of Wiener Blut.
