Haskins has a particularly strong connection to Ferndown. The business originally operated a smaller garden centre at Trickett’s Cross before its growing popularity led to a move to Longham in 1994. The new 10-acre site represented a £4 million investment and gave Haskins the space to significantly expand its range of plants, gardening products and facilities.

Today, plants remain at the heart of the Ferndown centre, with plenty to explore throughout the seasons alongside pots, compost, tools and other gardening essentials. Visitors can also browse outdoor furniture, barbecues, gifts, homeware and lifestyle collections, making it somewhere to visit for much more than the garden alone.

The Ferndown centre is also home to a large restaurant serving breakfasts, lunches, lighter bites, freshly baked cakes and hot drinks. The menu includes everything from a traditional carvery and fish and chips to pizzas, salads and daily specials, while Costa Coffee is also available. For private occasions and meetings, the centre has its own Cedar Room with access to a private area of the terrace.

Other facilities at Haskins Ferndown include free parking, a dedicated Plant Advice Centre, disabled facilities, free WiFi and dog-friendly areas within the shop and restaurant. Hobbycraft and a number of other retailers can also be found close to the garden centre, adding to the variety available around the site.

More than 30 years after the Longham centre opened, Haskins remains a well-established part of the Ferndown area, combining its local horticultural roots with everything needed for the garden, home and a relaxed day out.
