What to Expect

Christchurch Carnival has been bringing local people and visitors together for more than 115 years. Organised by a volunteer team, the event raises money for local charities and community organisations while showcasing the town in a lively summer celebration.

Although the 2027 programme is still to be confirmed, visitors can usually expect:

  • Live music and entertainment at Christchurch Quay
  • A traditional funfair and family attractions
  • Food, drink and independent traders
  • Community performances and activities
  • The Christchurch Carnival street parade
  • A summer fireworks display over the water
  • Fundraising for selected local charities

Activities, performance times and the fireworks schedule may change each year. Please check the official Carnival website before travelling.

Christchurch Carnival Parade

The street parade is one of the highlights of Carnival weekend, bringing community groups, performers, decorated vehicles and colourful costumes through Christchurch town centre.

The date, starting time and route for the 2027 parade have not yet been announced. Groups wishing to participate should register through the official website once applications open, as entry on the day may not be possible.

Getting There

Christchurch Quay is within walking distance of Christchurch town centre and approximately 15–20 minutes on foot from Christchurch railway station.

Parking close to the Quay can become extremely busy during Carnival weekend. Visitors should arrive early and consider walking, cycling or using public transport where possible. Temporary road closures may operate during the parade.

Accessibility

The Carnival is intended to be accessible and free for everyone to attend. Christchurch Quay is predominantly level, although grassed areas may become uneven or difficult to cross in wet weather.

Visitors with particular accessibility requirements should contact the organisers before attending and check the official website for the latest arrangements.
